Here are some options for you while we spend more time at home or outdoors due to the COVID-19 virus.

Hoopla Children’s Titlesstreaming movies, television episodes, movies,  music, ebooks, comics, and audio books. Popular titles are always available so you can borrow what you like, when you like. Set up a free account using your library card and 4-digit PIN.

Kanopy Kids– an on-demand streaming video that offers viewers a large collection (over 30,000) of award-winning films and documentaries. Kanopy includes children’s programming with its subdivision Kanopy Kids. Create an account with your library card and PIN for free access. Kanopy Kids offers unlimited plays and parental controls.

Tumblebook LibraryPicture and chapter books, read alongs and graphic novels, videos and games – all available with no waiting lists in English, French or Spanish. Note: There is an English nonFlash option available for Apple and other devices if Flash is disabled on your device.

StoryWalk @ Carter Park in Deerfield Township – NOT ONLINE. This is an outdoor resource. Free, self-guided, and open during park hours. A StoryWalk transforms the pages of a children’s book into signs that are laid out on a trail. Following the path of pages is a great way to keep your body and brain active and healthy! Books are rotated at the end of most months.

Jbrary Story Time Songs & Rhymes Playlists – Two librarians perform 100s of songs, rhymes, and finger plays  just like in our story times for babies, toddlers, and preschool! If you are one of our Bouncy or Toddle Time regulars, you’ll love these videos!

DPL Children’s Authors – Read Alouds and other FaceTime live events – xplore a selection of FaceTime Live and YouTube live children’s events. Dan Santat Online Survival School! Squiggles and Scribbles with Ben Clanton!

Read Wonder and Learn! – a growing collection of resources that include everything from first-chapter and picture book read-alouds (all shared with permission!) to drawing and writing mini-lessons. Be sure to check back often, as new resources will be added every day.

Khan Academy during school closures – How Khan Academy can be used for remote learning for ages 4-18, includes daily schedules and module recommendations

Rivet – a free reading app with  over 3500 free leveled books for children learning to read

Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems – Draw, doodle and explore new ways of writing by visiting Mo’s studio virtually once a day for the next few weeks. Grab some paper and pencils, pens, or crayons and join Mo to explore ways of writing and making together. New episodes will be posted each weekday at 1:00 p.m. ET and then remain online to be streamed afterwards.  Check back each weekday for new LUNCH DOODLES!

Live art lessons by Jarrett J. Krosoczka – From his Facebook page: “Gina and I are transitioning to homeschooling. We need to keep the kids on a schedule and we are imagining we are far from alone. We want to help. Every weekday at 2pm ET for at least the next few weeks, I’ll host free webcasts for you and your kiddos. If you can’t watch live, each art lesson will be archived. Get your kids creating, drawing, using their imagination. We will get through this together.”

Live Shows by  authors & illustrators  – a list of authors/illustrators, etc who will be doing regular live readings/interactive sessions on Facebook, Youtube, or Instagram.
